Architect: Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates
Developer: Mori Building
Roppongi Hills is another integrated residential development by Mori Building. It is in stark contrast with Omotesando Hills with its 54-story high tower that house retail, hotels, offices and apartments as well as a few parks. It is also connected to many developments around the site, bought off by the developer, creating a conglomerate of buildings. However, most of the spaces of the study are around the main tower, particularly the internal and external street typologies.
Apart from the relatively confusing streets, one needs some good map skills to get to specific shops in Roppongi Hills, let alone get around. From the 2nd story upwards the interior becomes a maze of criss-crossing bridges, corridors and escalators that confuses rather than help visitors.
